2021-22 BOC LIFE Hong Kong Premier League – Kwoon Chung Southern 3:0 HKFC


Kwoon Chung Southern took on HKFC in Aberdeen Sports Ground on Sunday afternoon for its BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League home-opener. An impressive first half hat trick performance by Stefan Pereira drove Kwoon Chung Southern past HKFC by 3:0 on the day.

HKFC faced a severe test early in the game. On the 10th minute, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Shu Sasaki broke behind the HKFC defense but was brought down by goalkeeper To Chun-kiu outside the box. The referee flashed out a straight red card to the HKFC goalkeeper. HKFC was down to ten men.

Kwoon Chung Southern quickly capitalized on the 16th minute. Zeshan Rehman cutely tapped a Kwoon Chung Southern corner-kick delivery back to the HKFC goal-mouth. Stefan Pereira wasted no time and dished out a left-footer that found the back of the net, making it a 1:0 game for Kwoon Chung Southern.

The home side hit HKFC with another goal on the 21st minute. Cheng Chin-lung’s forward pass from inside the HKFC penalty box found teammate Stefan Pereira. The latter took care of the rest and smashed the ball home in style, making it 2:0 in the process.

On the 31st minute, Kwoon Chung Southern duly made it 3:0. Defender Zeshan Rehman knocked a looping cross towards the middle. Luciano Da Silva added a nifty touch and the ball fell for Stefan Pereira. The latter duly fired the ball home and made it 3:0 for Kwoon Chung Southern. It look a bit over thirty minutes for Stefan Pereira to claim his impressive hat trick.

Kwoon Chung Southern continued to press for the next goal. On the 40th minute, Shu Sasaki from the home side found enough opening inside the HKFC box and squeezed in a tight angle shot that narrowly missed hitting the intended target.

On the 44th minute, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Stefan Pereira gave chase to a teammate’s diagonal ball, then picked it up on the right wing, before cutting inside. The Kwoon Chung Southern forward unleashed a quick shot but saw his effort going wide off the HKFC net. The first half concluded with Kwoon Chung Southern in front 3:0.

HKFC almost pulled one back early in the second half. On the 48th minute, Marcus Mcmillan floated a dangerous free-kick into the Kwoon Chung Southern doorstep. Leonardo Peres dished out a leaping header but could not beat Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Ng Wai-him with his effort.

It was back to Kwoon Chung Southern on the 56th minute. Stefan Pereira swung the ball into the HKFC box. James Ha fired a quick shot from the HKFC dangerous area but ended up hitting the side netting.

HKFC had a glorious chance to get on the scoreboard. On the 66th minute, a melee took place inside the Kwoon Chung Southern goal-mouth. Thomas Harrington nodded the ball forward for teammate Martin Fray. The latter fired away but blasted the ball over the crossbar from point-blank distance. It was a dear miss by HKFC.

Kwoon Chung Southern had a decent chance to expand its lead. On the 76th minute, Ju Yingzhi’s corner-kick found Luciano Da Silva inside the HKFC box. The latter connected with a leaping header but failed to hit the target with his effort.

The 3:0 score stood towards the final whistle, as Stefan Pereira and his hat trick drove Kwoon Chung Southern past HKFC by 3:0.
