2020-2021 Jockey Club Women's Football League (1st Div.) - League Update
Kitchee and Happy Valley locked horns in Tsang Tai Uk Recreation Ground on Saturday night for a heavy weight clash in the Jockey Club Women's Football League (1st Division). Goals from Tang Kei-suet and Yasmin Sung sealed the victory for Happy Valley, as the league leaders went on and shutout Kitchee 2:0.
It was quite an even affair early in the first half. On the 16th minute, Kwong Wing-yan tried her luck with a long range shot from outside the Happy Valley box. The ball took a deflection off a Happy Valley and was easily claimed by goalkeeper Chan Kam-ling.
Happy Valley drew first blood of the game on the 28th minute. Yasmin Sung picked up the ball through a teammate’s cross, then spun-and-fired from inside the Kitchee penalty area but was sensationally stopped by Kitchee goalkeeper Leung Wai-nga. Tang Kei-suet showed great awareness and buried the rebound, sending Happy Valley in front 1:0.
Past the half hour mark, Happy Valley went ahead and doubled its lead. Ma Chak-shun knocked the ball forward and found teammate Yasmin Sung. The Happy Valley striker applied a nifty header, pushed forward into the Kitchee box and fired the ball past goalkeeper Leung Wai-nga, making it a 2:0 lead for Happy Valley.
The first half eventually ended with Happy Valley leading by 2:0.
Kitchee had a glorious chance to get on the scoreboard early in the second half. On the 46th minute, Andrea Fraser was gifted the ball inside the Happy Valley box due to some sloppy ball-handling by the opponent. The Kitchee forward pulled off a quick shot but sent the ball wide.
On the 77th minute, Happy Valley nearly pulled further away, as Wong Shuk-fan’s short free-kick delivery found Cham Ching-man nearby. The latter unloaded a tight-angle blast but saw her shot rung off the Kitchee crossbar and went out of play.
Both sides failed to add to the score in the remaining regulation time, as Happy Valley shutout Kitchee 2:0 on the evening and picked up maximum points.
Later on in the same venue, Citizen defeated Tai Po 3:0 in the second Jockey Club Women's Football League (1st Division) fixture of the evening.
