2019-20 BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League – Kitchee 2:1 Lee Man
Kitchee clashed heads with Lee Man on Thursday afternoon in Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground for the lone BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture of the day. Tong Kin-man’s goal in the second half proved to be the eventual match-winner, as Kitchee edged Lee Man 2:1 and collected all three points from the premier league encounter.
Kitchee fired the first warning shot of the game on the 4th minute, as midfielder Cleiton De Oliveira unloaded a long range shot from the left-wing but narrowly missed hitting the target.
On the 15th minute, Kitchee’s Ju Yingzhi delivered a sweet curling free-kick into the Lee Man box, striker Nikola Komazec timed his jump perfectly but headed the ball just wide off the Lee Man goal.
Lee Man nearly drew first blood of the game on the 22nd minute. Jonatan Acosta sprung teammate Yu Pui-hong loose into the Kitchee box. The Lee Man player picked out the far-post with a delicate shot but could not find the Kitchee net.
It was back to Kitchee’s turn on the 29th minute. Ju Yingzhi delivered another dangerous free-kick deep into the Lee Man box. Nikola Komazec went sliding in but could not generate enough pace on his redirection, allowing Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun to defuse the danger easily.
Kitchee finally broke the game open shortly after the half-hour mark. On the 31st minute, Chan Shinichi knocked a curling corner-kick straight into the Lee Man penalty area. Nikola Komazec dashed to the front-post and nodded the ball into the net. The score was now 1:0 with Kitchee in front.
Lee Man managed to tie the game late in the first half. On the 42nd minute, the referee spotted a Kitchee player committing a foul inside his own box and duly awarded Lee Man with a spot-kick. Lee Man’s Michael N’dri took the penalty-shot and fired the ball home. The score was now 1:1.
Kitchee went knocking on the Lee Man door early in the second half. On the 53rd minute, midfielder Yu Jingzhi picked up the ball outside the Lee Man box and pulled the trigger. The ball looked set to threaten the Lee Man goal but ended up going wide off the net.
Lee Man’s Jonatan Acosta tried to fire his side in front on the 69th minute with an ambitious long range shot from the left-flank but failed to locate the Kitchee goal.
Kitchee almost regained the lead on the 73rd minute, when Chan Shinichi’s corner-kick found teammate Wellingsson De Souza at the Lee Man goal-mouth. The latter one-timed the ball but saw his effort sensationally denied by a kick-save from Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun.
Kitchee went up for the second time in the game on the 83rd minute. Chan Shinichi sent an in-swinging corner-kick into the Lee Man penalty area. Kitchee’s Park Junheong applied a nifty header at the back-post, Tong Kin-man dove for the ball and nodded it home. The score was now 2:1 with Kitchee back in front.
In injury-time, Kitchee’s Manu Gavilan broke behind the Lee Man defense and sent a low drive towards the Lee Man goal, only to be charged away by goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun. Shortly afterwards, Wellingsson De Souza had a great one-on-one chance against the Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun but saw his shot brilliantly turned away by the Lee Man custodian.
Tong Kin-man’s goal proved to be the eventual match-winner of the game, as Kitchee edged Lee Man 2:1 and claimed all three points from the premier league encounter.
