Kwoon Chung Southern and Eastern Long Lions gathered in Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground on Wednesday afternoon for the latest BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture. A Lucas Da Silva goal in the first half proved to be the difference of the game, as Eastern Long Lions edged Kwoon Chung Southern 1:0 and picked up maximum points.

Eastern Long Lions came up with a superb chance to open the score on the 11th minute. Wong Tsz-ho knocked the ball deep into the Kwoon Chung Southern penalty area and found teammate Lucas Da Silva. The latter dished out a timely header but was turned away by a superb save from goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to. The ball was subsequently cleared away by a Kwoon Chung Southern defender.

Moments later, Eastern Long Lions managed to break the game open. On the 13th minute, Alessandro Leonardo crossed the ball from the left-flank. Joao Emir soared high at the back-post and nodded the ball back towards the goal-mouth. Lucas Da Silva pounced on the opportunity and duly headed the ball home from point-blank, putting Eastern Long Lions in front 1:0.

Afterwards, Eastern Long Lions continued to threaten the opposing goal. On the 19th minute, Lucas Da Silva found himself on the receiving end of an Alessandro Leonardo’s long pass, then fought off pressure from an opposing player before pulling the trigger from inside the box. Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to was extremely alert and managed to charge the ball away.  

Past the half-hour mark, Eastern Long Lions was at it once again. This time, Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to mis-judged an Eastern Long Lions centering pass, allowing Alessandro Leonardo to pick out teammate Lucas Da Silva inside the penalty area. The latter stepped up and let rip but saw his shot kicked away by Choy in the Kwoon Chung Southern net. Choy successfully redeemed himself.

On the 38th minute, Eastern Long Lions went knocking on the Kwoon Chung Southern door once again. Lee Ka-yiu collected the ball down the right-wing before crossing it towards the middle. Lucas Da Silva soared high but could not hit the target with his header.

Kwoon Chung Southern generated a rare scoring opportunity right before the end of the first half, as Roberto Fronza connected with a Shu Sasaki corner-kick and sent a bullet header straight towards the Eastern Long Lions net. Goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai flashed out a spectacular reaction save and defused the danger.

Eastern Long Lions started the second half brightly and nearly added to its lead. On the 56th minute, Everton Camargo made a powerful run with the ball and reached the edge of the Kwoon Chung Southern penalty area. The pacey forward unleashed a cracking shot but could not find the target with his shot.

On the 65th minute, Eastern Long Lions’ Chung Wai-keung fired a running shot from the right-wing but saw his low drive sailed just wide off the Kwoon Chung Southern goal.

Eastern Long Lions continued to work diligently, hoping to add to its lead. On the 88th minute, youngster Yue Tsz-Nam delivered a curling corner-kick into the Kwoon Chung Southern box. Eastern Long Lions defender Clayton Afonso sent a powerful header towards goal, only to be denied by a quick save from the extremely alert Kwoon Chung Southern goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to.

The score stood towards the final whistle, as Eastern Long Lions edged Kwoon Chung Southern 1:0 and picked up all three points from the premier league encounter.
